Objectives

The project was launched to improve energy performance of hospital buildings in Europe and to disseminate the most beneficial innovative technologies for new build and refurbished hospitals. Build Health promotes Integrated Energy Design and puts emphasis on maximizing the use of primary and renewable energy. The key innovative elements are:

  • energy efficient ventilation concepts and methods

  • measures for utilisation of daylight (roof lights, light ducts, lights shelves)

  • lighting control systems and energy efficient light sources

  • solar technologies for heating and cooling, hot water and electricity

  • environmental sustainability design tools aiming at increasing the use of environmentally friendly building materials

  • advanced energy control and information systems

The hospitals will be able to use the money saved thanks to energy efficiency on improving the quality of their services. International team of experts has prepared guidelines for redevelopment of three European hospitals participating in the project. These are:

  • Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London

  • Verona City hospital

  • Clinical Hospital of Infectious diseases of “Toma Ciorba” in Chisinau.

The results of demonstration projects, reports from their realization and lessons learned will be widely disseminated in Europe. National Energy Conservation Agency is the Polish partner in this project and is responsible for dissemination of its results.
