SUMMERHEAT

Project name

Meet cooling needs in SUMMER by applying HEAT from cogeneration

Project duration

from 1.01.2006 to 31. 12.2008

Project coordinator

Berliner Energieagentur GmbH

Partners

   1. Berliner Energieagentur GmbH (BE) – Germany,
   2. Austrian Energy Agency (A.E.A.) – Austria,
   3. Fernwärme Wien GesmbH (FWW) – Austria,
   4. CITYPLAN spol. s r.o. (CP) – Czech Republic,

   7. Křbenhavns Energi (KE) – Denmark,
   8. National Energy Conservation Agency (NAPE) – Poland,
   9. Euroheat & Power (EHP) – Belgium.

Objectives

  • Providing an overview on the current market situation for Summerheat in Europe

  • Specifying the framework conditions in the partner countries and bringing out the barriers

  • Identifying necessary developments and implementation strategies for increasing the use of Summerheat as a sustainable technology

  • Removing barriers through targeted actions addressing the key actors on national and international level – elaborating advice for a political strategy

  • Building a cooperation network with the key actors: investors, municipalities, District heating suppliers

  • Implementing a dissemination strategy on international and national level to encourage project development throughout Europe.

Results

The direct outcomes for the seven EU regions that participated in the project include:

  • Legislative and political framework descriptions (country reports)

  • Market reports regarding the use of Summerheat (utilisation and potential)

  • Ecological and economic comparison of Summerheat in comparison with conventional air conditioning application

  • One feasibility study for each of the

  • seven regions

  • Interaction with key actors from the supply side (investors, project developers, energy utilities, chiller manufacturers) in expert workshops in the seven regions

  • For energy supply companies: workshops and support in defining strategies for an increased use of Summerheat

  • For policy makers and lobbyists:proposal for effective policies regarding the market conditions for cogeneration technologies and thermal cooling

  • For the general public: articles in respective journals and magazines

  • For international expert audience: three presentations at Euroheat & Power events and workshops

The seminar was opened by Andrzej Wiszniewski, PhD, who summarized the already achieved project results, plans for further development, and, what is most import ant for us, discussed the possibilities of implementation of this system in Poland. Each participant received a SUMMERHEAT Guide translated into Polish.

The next speakers were Zbigniew Wójcik, MS, from Vattenfall Heat Poland S.A. and Adam Smyk from SPEC S.A. They discussed the subject of “Utilization of district heating to meet cooling demands – experiences and plans of Vattenfall Heat Poland S.A. and SPEC S.A."

Then, Marcin Idczak, MS, from the Institute of Passive Buildings was speaking about contemporary small efficiency technologies of using heat to produce cold.

The last speaker was Andrzej Jarosz, MS, from Carrier company, talking about energy management in absorption systems.

Seminar workshop in Warsaw, June 2008

On June 19, 2008 issues of Summerheat project realization were discussed.
